Some Conventions and Customs of our Fire Circle Culture

Let us envision co-creating a safe, magical experience for everyone in the Fire Circle...

Because we focus on magickal work within the sacred space contained by the torches and prayer flags, we take casual conversation outside and away from the Circle.

Each time we step through the Gate, we bring ourselves present. To help us enter sacred space mindfully, we may use a purification rite (with smudge, sound, water or other blessing), or simply breathe, ground and center.

conseederationsWe feed material for transformation to Sacred Fire with consciousness and intention. We check with a fire guardian before placing anything in the fire.

When we pause to give or receive healing energy, we do so in a nest near the Circle.

We use the seats within the Circle for making music. When not playing, we move instruments out and make room for other players.

We ask before using another's musical instrument, and remove rings and bracelets to prevent hurting our hands or the instrument.

We share our small instruments at the Rattle Altar, use them gently and mindfully, and return them when finished.

Our Circle honors creative and sonic diversity. We create spaces for voices and quieter musical instruments to shine, and allow the Circle to fall silent at times so we may listen to the sounds of the night and the Fire.

We play music mindfully and in accord with the evolving energies and offerings within in the circle. At times, we create music organically; at other times, systematically.

We invite and support one another to share songs, chants and poetry.

We keep all sacraments outside the Fire Circle, keeping our Sacred Space free of smoke, drugs and alcohol.

The flow of energy moves around the Fire. The center tends toward movement; Stillness gravitates to the edges.

We contribute to the Food Altar, from which we nourish each other and ourselves throughout the night.

We engage in the circle through service, such as offering food and water to musicians and dancers, smudging at the Gate, lighting torches, and otherwise caring for the space and each other in the Fire Circle.

The Temple of Light is a place for quiet, wakeful contemplation.

We value fun and play within our Circle of Community.

Listen, watch, feel ...and listen.  Let your love show!

When our minds begin to drift and the brilliance begins to fade, a deep kind of work begins. To stay present and engaged, you may find it helpful to remember that we provide each other's inspiration. To find and renew this inspiration we need only to discover and rediscover the mysteries within our relationships. We create and explore relationship through our artful interactions in the circle.
